The Gates Corporation is proud to provide members of NACAT the opportunity to apply for the “Gates Corporation Conference Attendance Scholarship Award” for the NACAT Annual Convention, July 19-23, 2010. The Gates Scholarship is open to all NACAT General Members in both the US and Canada that are in good standing with NACAT. The intent of this award is to provide assistance with travel and conference fees and to relieve some of the financial burden associated with such conferences. It also allows an educator that normally might not attend an opportunity to increase their knowledge, proficiency and professionalism by attending this important function. Conference information is available at www.nacatconference.org. Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship:
- Educator is a current General NACAT member in good standing
- Educator has taught continuously for the last three years
- Educator must be currently employed (under contract) at a school or college and considered full time
- Educator must agree to sustain the additional conference and travel expenses not covered by this Gates Scholarship
- The Educator is not the recipient of another NACAT Education Foundation award for this year but is encouraged to apply for all awards eligible.
- The Educator was not a previous first place winner for this award.
Terms of Scholarship:
- Scholarship will be known as the “Gates Corporation NACAT Scholarship” and is to be administered by the NACAT Education Foundation.
- There are two scholarship awards available that will provide $1500 to the winner and $1000 to the first runner up towards offsetting NACAT conference fees, travel and lodging expenses
- Winners must be present for all of the conference events and participate in conference activities.
Application for Scholarship:
- Nominees are required to submit the following materials by April 1, 2010 to the NACAT office on school letterhead.
- A cover letter indicating your application for this award and how it would benefit you as a teacher.
- A short resume describing your current and past automotive teaching experience including licenses, certificates diplomas and educational background.
- Include a letter from your administrator recommending you for the award.
- Include a paragraph or two on how automotive manufactures can best reach the educators with the latest information on training on both product and technical’s issues. (Yes, training in person may be best way but for the purpose of this argument should not be included ) Please include current suggestions and techniques that you use to keep the students involved in your classes.
Award applications will be reviewed during April, 2010. The NACAT Education Foundation will establish a judging committee that will select the winner and first runner-up along with a third place alternate. Each applicant will be informed of the final decision. The winner, runner-up and alternate will be notified before May 1st. The winner and runner-up must accept the award and its terms in writing, before June 1, 2010. If not, the finish order will be adjusted to include the alternate. It is the responsibility of the winner to submit conference registration and fees and make all travel arrangements. The award will be presented at the NACAT Awards Banquet. If any of the awards are not presented, the funds will revert back to the NACAT Education Foundation.
