THE PURPOSE
The annual Jack Erjavec Instructor Award was awarded for the first time in June 2007 to foster the professional development of promising new automotive technology instructors. In order to open up the scholarship to more instructors, the Jack Erjavec Innovative Instructor Award, given for the first time in 2011, will be granted to the instructor who demonstrates the most innovative and effective use of technology in the classroom.

Sponsored by Delmar Cengage Learning, and administered by the NACAT Education Foundation, the $2500 annual award provides funding to allow one instructor each year to attend the summer NACAT conference and other training events.  In addition, the NACAT Education Foundation will provide the winner with a one year membership in NACAT.  If the winner is already a NACAT member, he/she will have a one year extension added to their current membership.

DEFINITION OF INNOVATIVE
“The introduction of something new. Using or showing new methods and/or ideas.”   For this award, innovation includes such things as: the use of e-learning products in the classroom, the development of instructional standards and tracking of student progress, the creation of instructional animations, the modification of existing instructional and management packages, and participating with e-learning products and sites for the purpose of professional development.

IMPORTANT DATES
Nomination deadline is April 1, 2013. Announcement of the award will be made by May 15, 2013. The award will be presented at NACAT’s 2013 annual conference held in Quebec Citym Quebecm, Canada; July 22-26, 2013.

Self nomination for the award is encouraged, although fellow instructors, department chairs, or administrators can nominate someone within their program or school.  We do require an administrative reference (name, phone number, email address) due to the types of questions used to help evaluate applications (please obtain their permission before sharing their information with us).  We will not contact the reference unless an applicant advances to the final round of judging.  At that point, we will contact the reference to gain their perspective on the applicant and the applicant’s innovative techniques. 

Awards do not take into account any references to age, sex, religion, race, national origin, disability, or ethnic background. Please attach additional sheets to nomination if additional space is required. Each individual is eligible to win only one scholarship/award affiliated with the NACAT Education Foundation each year.

ABOUT JACK ERJAVEC
The award recognizes the contributions of Jack Erjavec, former board member and current officer of NACAT, and recipient of the 2006 NACAT MVP Award. Erjavec is the Author of Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach, 5th Edition, the Today’s Technician Series Editor as well as is the lead author, series editor, or contributor to dozens of other Delmar books. Mr. Erjavec was a charter member of STS/SAE, has served as board member of the Automotive Training Managers Council, and has been awarded numerous honors throughout his career.

Jack Erjavec is a valuable contributor to automotive education. Delmar is proud to honor his commitment to the field by offering instructors the opportunity to further develop their teaching skills and technical knowledge.

NOMINEES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA
The award is open to ANY automotive technology instructor who works at a public or private secondary or post-secondary school or training center in North America.  Full-time faculty nominees will receive higher consideration than part-time faculty nominees.
